Vestsjællands Veterantog purchased Store Fuglede station and its associated garden in March 2019.
The work to restore the station to its original appearance and function around 1950 is already well underway and is being carried out mainly as unpaid volunteer work by enthusiasts from Vestsjællands Veterantog.
The station currently functions as a clubhouse, but will in future be used for various events, where access will be open to all.
The station was designed by the then chief architect of the Danish State Railways, Heinrich C. Wenck, who also designed Copenhagen Central Station.
Wenck designed more than 150 small and large stations and saw it as an honor to spread the best possible architecture to all corners of the country. Station buildings were supposed to show the public that this is where the railway is, and were often the citizens' first encounter with new architecture, designed by academy-trained architects.
The building was built in the winter of 1897/98 by local craftsmen. A great deal was done to the decoration: brick details and carved granite in the facade, carved details in the woodwork.
The station building appears today in an unreconstructed state and represents building and architectural history from a bygone era.
In August 2022, Danmarks Radio recorded some scenes in the vestibule and waiting room for use in the series “Danes in the World”
With support from Samlingskraft, we held an open house at the station in September 2024
